Chequers Shopping Centre, Huntingdon Town Centre
Huntingdon Town Centre
A town centre regeneration project by Manormaker Partnership LLP a joint venture between BP Pension Fund and Churchmanor Pension Scheme

Our asset management skills have become an increasingly important resource within our business.

We purchased Chequers Court for £6m as an investment asset and we have turned a 1960s shopping centre into a vibrant retail destination for the local community.

Now rebranded as Chequers Shopping Centre the Zone A rents have increased from £15.00 to £50.00 and the shopping centre continues to perform strongly.

The regeneration of Huntingdon was first carried out in partnership with Huntingdon District Council and Sainsburys to create a first phase of new shopping facilities. More latterly the District Council has constructed a major new multi-story car park following which the Manormaker Partnership LLP constructed a new 60,000sqft extension which has provided new anchor tenants for the town such as M&S Food Hall, Next and TK Maxx.

Our development was Highly Commended for the Best Commercial Project at the Building Excellence Awards 2018.

We have engaged in a process of active management and as a result the shopping centre has attracted an interesting mix of independent and national retail outlets. In the last year shops have been let to 3 Store, Magnet, Holland and Barrett and Cards Direct as well as Churchmanor successfully renegotiating existing leases for occupiers within the town.

Churchmanor has been a major player in helping to rejuvenate Huntingdon town centre. Having been met with many challenges their persistence and tenacity in delivering Chequers Shopping Centre has resulted in an exciting new shopping experience. We have been very impressed by their ‘can do’ attitude and enthusiasm, which has helped to improve the trading environment leading to an increase in footfall, essential for a thriving Market Town
