B&Q have opened at Stane Retail Park in Colchester following a ribbon cutting ceremony led by Colchester mayor Robert Davidson.. The 81,350 sqft B&Q unit is designed as one of the first of their latest generation stores to include a covered builder’s yard and large improved garden centre.
The Churchmanor Estates company plc, together with Readie Construction Ltd have been constructing the £60m Stane Retail Park in Tollgate Colchester since last year. As part of the construction works Churchmanor are spending £2.6million on improvements to the Eight Ash Green A12 roundabout with a new four way traffic signal junction and the widening of the Western Bypass to two lanes between Essex Yeomanry Way and the Sainsbury’s roundabout. The works on the Western Bypass are nearly completed with the road reopened to single lane traffic.
Caroline Voutsinas, store manager of B&Q Stane Park, said: “DIY has really captured the imagination of the nation over the past 18-months. So our new and improved B&Q in Colchester is very timely, giving Colchester DIY-ers and tradespeople a much improved store experience with plenty of exciting new features to make home improvement easier than ever. I cannot wait to welcome the local community into the store.”
The scheme of 173,000sqft comprises new stores for B&Q, Marks & Spencer Food and Aldi with the balance of the space under active letting discussions with additional retailers.
Emma Proctor King, Head of Communications for Churchmanor said “We are thrilled that despite the challenges of Covid we have been able to continue with the construction at Stane Retail Park. We hope that our new retail park together with the long overdue highway improvements that we are committed to will mean a new and improved retail offer for the Stanway and Colchester communities”
