We are pleased to announce that planning has been granted for the Park’s Green Energy Hub. The hub will support the increasing demand for green energy and the further roll-out of electric vehicle charging points across the Park and is part of our commitment to creating a sustainable Park environment.
To support the increasing demand for green energy and to facilitate the further roll-out of chargeable electric vehicle charging points across Chesterford Research Park, plans have developed plans for the installation of a Green Energy Hub. The Green Energy Hub will consist of circa. 170 fixed photovoltaic (PV) solar tables. Localised battery storage units housed in containerised units will store surplus energy overnight.
- The hub will provide a direct renewable electricity supply for the daily operation of the Park including electric vehicle charging.
- It will reduce our reliance on non-renewable energy sources, in line with our ambition to achieve greater sustainability and carbon neutrality. It has been estimated that the hub will provide 2.7
million kilo watt hours (kWh) annually, removing approximately 1,160 metric tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions each year. - The electricity generated will displace fossil fuel generation, with the reduction in emissions contributing to the national legislation of zero net carbon emissions by 2050.
- It will also contribute to the reduction of emissions declared locally by Uttlesford District Council, who have committed to achieving net-zero carbon status by 2030.
